Simpson Safaris - Some suggested safarisBelow are some ideas for safaris in Kenya. We have outlined an example of a 2 week safari, a 2-3 night safari and brief suggestions for a 1 week safari. 2 weeks on Safari with Simpson's Safaris:
Day 2 We fly to South Horr in our Cessna 182. A very spectacular flight up the Rift valley. South Horr is where we will base ourselves to see the Turkana area and in this remote, rugged, wild and beautiful area we find the Turkana and Samburu nomadic tribes, as they always were - definitely not a tourist trap and not like most of Africa where they have been corrupted by civilisation. Here we will set our camp under the trees on the edge of a lugga (dry river) Day 3 We drive to Lake Turkana for the day. Scenically it is an incredible experience. Day 4 We fly to Koobi Fora, an hour’s flight up the lake, to see the fossil sites and exhibits where Leakey found "Early man". Koobi Fora is set in a game reserve so one has a chance of seeing exciting rare species of animals and birds as well as the arid north country with the added interest of the paleontology. Day 5 We fly back to our home, at Gilgil between Naivasha and Nakuru. Meanwhile our 4WD will be moving our camp to the next location. - a 3 day drive! Day 6 We visit Lake Naivasha and take a boat ride see the amazing numbers and varieties of birds and also Hippos. Day 7 We visit Lake Nakuru National Park, World famous for flamingos. Also very good for all the wildlife and the possibility of seeing rare rhinos. Day 8 We fly to either Samburu or the Masai Mara parks. Both in their individual ways fantastic for game viewing, birds and scenery. We can make the decision when you are with us or you do some research and let us know which you would prefer. We make sure that in both these parks we get away from the regular tourist crowds. We will camp in our private area which is the best way of enjoying the wild. Day 9 Game drives and enjoying camping under the trees near the river
We rent out our guest house to a conservation organisation where they will take guests (As long as they have an interest in conservation) for US$ 14 per day. It is pretty basic and you have be prepared to muck in. On the other hand if you want luxury go for Hemingway’s, or for a "family type" hotel go for Ocean Sports. Note. If you do not want to go to the coast we can always extend the time spent at our safari destinations (Our clients often say they wish they could stay longer because what is at each place is so enjoyable, interesting and wonderful that they need more time to enjoy and absorb it.) A few further options are: 2 to 3 Nights This length of safari is good for seeing one destination. We recommend the Masai Mara or Samburu parks as the best for seeing the widest variety of animals and birds. But we do go anywhere if the clients prefer. Places often requested include: Lake Nakuru, The Aberdare Mountains, Amboseli , Meru, Tsavo. All National Parks. In any of these we set up our own private camp. In the Mara and Samburu we have very special camp sites both on a river with good shade, a great variety of birds and a good chance of all sorts of animals passing by (and sometimes through) the camp. Normally we send our 4wd vehicle + trailer ahead to set up the camp and we fly in to be met ready for a game drive and into camp in time for lunch. A siesta after lunch and then an evening game drive. Drinks and dinner by the camp fire enjoying all the nocturnal noises of the African wilderness under the huge star lit sky, undisturbed by other tourists. The next day we are up early for a game drive to find the big cats and everything else which is so much more active in the cool of the lovely African dawn. Back to camp for a late breakfast. Then another game drive or a visit to the local tribe's village or staying in camp and enjoying the game that comes to visit us. This will be our routine for the next day or two. If you want to see the country by road on the way back (or there) you can be driven in our Land cruiser. 1 Week In this time we can do two or three of the options described in the above two safaris. |
